Airports
London Stansted: is the closest airport to the University. You can use the SX Connect 133 coach service to travel from London Stansted Airport direct to our Colchester Campus in about 90 min; a taxi journey takes about 45 min.
London Heathrow: From London Heathrow Airport you can take an London Underground train to Liverpool Street Station in London. You will need to take the Piccadilly line, eastbound, to Holborn, and then the Central line, eastbound, to Liverpool Street Station. Alternatively, you can take a Heathrow Express train to Paddington Station in London and then get on the underground (eastbound on the Circle line) to Liverpool Street Station. From Liverpool Street Station you will need to take a train to Colchester (see Train and Local Transport). The whole journey takes approximately two and a half hours. There is also a coach service to Colchester operated by National Express.
London Gatwick: From London Gatwick Airport you can take a Gatwick Express train to Victoria Station in London, and then either a taxi or an London Underground train (eastbound on the Circle line) to Liverpool Street Station. From Liverpool Street Station you will need to take a train to Colchester (see Train and Local Transport). The whole journey will take about two hours. There is also a coach service to Colchester operated by National Express.
London Southend: From London Southend Airport you can take a train to Shenfield. From Shenfield take a train to Colchester. Trains are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. The whole journey will take about 60 min.
Train and local transport
The train journey from London to Colchester takes about 60 min. Trains are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia and there are frequent trains from London Liverpool Street Station to Colchester (also known as Colchester North), Colchester Town, and Wivenhoe stations. From there you can either take a local bus or a taxi to the campus.
The following local bus services run through our campus connecting it to and from Colchester town centre, Colchester Station, and Wivenhoe Station: 61, 62, 74/74A, 75, 76 and 87.
There are taxi ranks in Colchester town centre and at Colchester Station (also known as Colchester North), and the journey to our campus from either takes around 15-25 minutes, depending on the time of day. There are taxi pick-up and drop-off points on both the north and south sides of campus.
Ferry
We are 30 minutes by car or train from Harwich International Port that is linked to Hoek van Holland (NL). Stena Line operates the ferry serice with two daily crossings (both ways) so you can choose between day and overnight sailings. You can transfer to our campus by car via the A120, or by train (Abellio Greater Anglia).
Car
Colchester is just off the A12. From London and south Essex, take the Colchester (A133) exit. From Ipswich, take the Colchester (A1232) exit. Please follow roadside signage to our Colchester Campus, which is to the east of Colchester off the A133.
